NVQ Qualifications In Nails

Are you interested in a career within the nail industry? If so then you will need to know all about the relevant qualifications that you need in order to become a professional within the field.

It may be a fairly new profession, but due to its massive popularity it has expanded incredibly quickly. This means that more techniques have been created and new forms of nail art have been developed in order to meet public demand. As the industry has grown authorities have realized that in order to give the public the best and safest possible treatments, certain standards needed to be followed.

The Standards Created

The courses designed with nail technicians in mind were developed by professionals within the industry. These professionals know all there is to know about health and safety, legislation and the different types of nail techniques and treatments available.

Within the UK these qualifications consist of NVQ's. There are three levels that you can currently train to, though there is also a fourth level being created which will be the highest qualification available to nail technicians.

NVQ's are known as National Vocational Qualifications.

They involve a mixture of practical and theoretical training and the company you work for will sometimes pay for your NVQ training. Level one is the most basic level and you can learn that at your local college before you apply to a company for employment. It will teach you the very basic skills needed to give consultations and to assist in the preparation of some treatments. You will also learn how to give a few simple treatments too.

It is not always essential for you to carry on training after level one; however it would be a good career choice to train as much as possible. The level two NVQ is what most people aim for as it trains nail technicians to work on their own. So you will go from an assistant to a professional nail technician. You will typically learn about treatments such as pedicures and manicures and health and safety problems that you should be aware of.

The current highest NVQ level three trains you to a supervisory status. It is created purely for nail technicians who already have advanced skills within the industry. You will discover more techniques in the nail art and artificial nail sectors.

The level four NVQ that is currently being developed is going to be designed for those who want to train to a managerial position. This would be ideal if you plan to run your own nail salon at some point in the future. As the business is a new one it is likely that there will be plenty of opportunity for development. So it would be a good idea to train as much as you can in order to gain as many skills as possible.
